Rhi Gibson
Philosophy and Vision
Rhi (they/them) is a queer, non binary Accredited Mental Health Social Worker who provides trauma informed counselling for young people and adults.
Their practice is person led, gender affirming and neurodivergent affirming. Rhi aims to create a collaborative space where people feel seen, heard and supported. They recognise each person as the expert in their own life and work in ways that support choice, self determination and empowerment.
Rhi’s practice is grounded in compassion, social justice and human rights, with an understanding of how trauma, identity, relationships and broader social experiences can affect mental health and wellbeing.
Background
Rhi has more than 25 years of experience across across community services in mental health, disability, addiction, domestic and family violence, and sexual violence sectors. Their experience includes counselling, brief intervention, clinical governance, training, leadership and management.
Rhi holds a Master of Social Work with Distinction and a Bachelor of Human Services. They are an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers and can accept referrals under a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan.

Therapeutic approach
Rhi takes an integrative approach to counselling, tailoring support to each person’s needs, preferences and goals. Their practice draws upon person centred, strengths based, narrative, interpersonal, mindfulness based and somatic approaches, as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.
Rhi uses invitational and non pathologising language and understands the importance of safety and stabilisation before deeper therapeutic work.

Appointments
Rhi offers individual counselling and professional supervision in person at Brisbane Endocrine and Gender Service and through Telehealth.
Medicare rebates may be available with a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan referral.
